Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
As future teachers we hear alot about attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or ADHD a lot. ADHD is a learning disability marked by inattention, impulsiveness, a low tolerance for frustration and a great dealm of inappropriate activity. If you look at this defination we can conclude that most children have some characteristics that are similar to ADHD. That is why this disabilty is over identified. Some of the characteristics of ADHD include; not being able to sit and watch an entire television program, difficulty waiting of remaing seated and/or fidgeting and squirming. ADHD is hard to for a doctor to diagnos but the treatment is even harder. The most common treatment is meds such as Ritalin or Dexadrine. Thses drugs can have adverse side affcts such as lose of appetite and depression. Drugs are not always the answer and with ADHD many parents are trying behavior therapy to help their chidlren over come ADHD. This is a postive alternative to drugs and used correctly can see better results.
