Published by sshield at 2:12 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

As future teachers and child care workers children with mental retardation is something we will come across more than we think. Many people do not consider the different degrees of mental retardation. People with mild retardation have minor levels of deficits. These students score between 50 and 70 on a standard IQ test. Some are not even identified until there are in school. Sometimes they may not be seen they might just fall through the cracks and those are the students that we need to be the most aware of and help. People with moderate retardation have an IQ that fall between 35 and 55. These children are identified usually early. They have slow language development and they have slow developing motor skills. People with severe and profound retardation have an IQ of 20 and 35. In most cases people with severe and profound retardation have little to no speech, and have limited abilities. It is important to recognize all the different degrees of mental retardation so we can ensure that all students receive the most appropriate education as possible.
